This sounds to me like a culture clash. The dynamic between Chinese parents and their offspring is almost 180 degrees from typical Western families. In China, parents, and especially grandparents and great-grandparents, are venerated, and there is practically nothing they can ask of offspring that can reasonably be refused. So, it's not just her parents that are involved here, but also her self esteem. If your relationship is important to you, I suggest you consider lifting your foot, as the adverse effects of not doing so could be much worse in the long run.

I sort of thing OP is a shallow asshole, but as I say to every guy who is upset that his girlfriend gained weight: it's better to break up with a partner that you're no longer attracted to than to try to nag/manipulate them into meeting your standards. I would be totally devastated to learn that my partner wasn't attracted to me and was just staying with me because of guilt.
So you can continue making the same mistakes and end up right back here. Right. Good idea.
