This is true and you can’t help someone who doesn’t want to be helped, but it still sucks. You’re stuck between a rock and a hot place. Tough love can backfire and make the person feel more alienated/feel like the other side doesn’t get it. Too much compassion and you’re smothering and the person withdraws even more.
I have a few friends like this, I’ve come to find that you gotta plan for them to be 1-3 hours late so to get them to arrive on time I tell them to be somewhere 1-3 hours before we actually need to be there, and then they actually arrive on time!
But I couldn’t date someone like this, to deal with this every day… no

I used to be the same until I had two encounters where someone tried to break into my house while I was in there. Police take 30min at best to arrive. First time all I could do was shake in fear and hide. The second time I was armed and it left a lot less trauma for me. For each their own. I by no means am into the NRA or whatever bullshit. However this is America unfortunately. I say this because I understand her.
However, are you going to compromise on the move? I think that is the bigger issue and the gun is just a small point by comparison. Good luck. Decisions are hot and the consequences can suck.

You've caught him in several lies and had to force the truth out of him. Imagine what it's gonna be like when you're forcing even harder truths out of him down the road. Trust is the number one most important thing in a relationship and you can't trust him.

There are things I feel are morally wrong, and I absolutely don't spend any amount of time with people that are like that (murderers, abusers, thieves, general AHs, etc)
I mean I honestly think that living rooms should be spaces that EVERYONE should be comfortable in and if he wants to be loud he should be the one to move his gaming setup.
