Most women naturally gain a bit of weight in their 20s. That being said, she’s obviously very insecure right now. It sounds like she’s taking suggestions at the gym as criticism. As long as she’s at the gym with you, why comment on what she’s doing? Let her do her thing and find her own workout. When I first started going to the gym with my husband it annoyed me when he would try to tell me my exercise was pointless or I should do this or that. I figured it out on my own and lost 20 lbs.
You could also try doing non gym fitness things- go for a walk together, a hike, join a sport or dance class together. Anything to get active.
