As fellow Indian, I could totally relate to him, his BIL and family. Indian families are tight knit if he's the youngest he'll always treated with kid gloves. Nothing he says or does is good enough or as you said highly unrealistic.
I literally had to fight with my parents for my independence, living alone, working in another state or live! in with my gf.
The way is not caring what they say and lead your own life. The faster you understand Indian family dynamics the better you can get on the situation and handle it better.
It won't ever change. It may for a short while, but it will always go back to what it was. Dont let yourself be fooled that things have changed. It won't last.
I moved out as soon as i was financially able- i’ve seen posts here where people do because it’s cheaper and they stayed friends, but most don’t.
