I think I might do that. But I don’t want to use my perception of our relationship status as an excuse. I knew I probably shouldn’t have done it before I started flirting with this girl and before I walked up her apartment steps. Because I wouldn’t want her to do the same? And I knew it would hurt her. Lack of judgement and selfishness I guess.
I think this a “smart” answer, but I feel like acting strategically and not honestly would just make me feel more like a liar and a deceiver.
I'm not really sure what else you can do. He really needs to focus on the present and your relationship and how good things are. It seems pretty obvious from what you've said here that he's a great sex partner for you and it would be good if he can focus on that and feel good about it. Unfortunately, there are some people, often people with low self-esteem, that just can't seem to stop themselves from finding something to make them feel badly about themselves and unfortunately I'm not sure there's much you can do about that.
I know it's frustrating, but unless he's willing to go to a therapist to help him learn to deal with those feelings, you're probably just going to have to live with it. Hopefully it's only an occasional things and not frequent.
