I understand the impulse but I don't think it's your job to make Steph see how the relationship with Lexi is no good. I do however think you are more than allowed to have your opinions; the tricky thing is though: they very well may get back together, or even continue this on-off dance for many more years. So, in the interest of keeping your friendship it is probably best not to express your opinions as candidly as you would like.
IME, it tends to be more helpful to try and provoke self reflection than it is to tell people how they are failing to see or acknowledge something. So, for example, when she says
“Lexi is just a confused scared child locked in her own mind who just wants to be loved”
I'd say, “I think we can all relate to that in one degree or other. But for a partner I'd like someone more mature (less scared or whatever you want to add in there).”
