Way before identity politics, and the republican= guns, and democrats = vaccines, the differences used to be more nuanced, republicans believed that the governments involvement in the daily life of the citizens should be very limited, and that the free market should be left alone. And democrats believed the government should have more involvement in citizens lives. It was more philosophical difference. So many Republicans are so, because of economic reasons, not social reasons. Meaning Republicans are not racists, and democrats are not baby eaters. The media has divided this country ,but don't let that happen to you, don't discount people based on their politics, but rather on their personality and actions.
