My sons level 1 autistic and has ADHD. He wasn't diagnosed until 14 (only 6 months ago) and for the last 12 years I kept being told by everyone around me that I just wasn't strict enough or I was too strict. That he needed more discipline. When he was finally diagnosed and we got help through CBT therapy the therapist told me that heavy discipline will have the total opposite affect and that I needed to be rewarding and praising him more.
So your teenage son is literally hitting his mother and throwing temper tantrums, but the advice you're asking about is in regards to your partner who gave her opinion AFTER you asked for help?
She's right… if you guys don't get this teen into therapy and work on his anger issues, the issue isn't going to solve itself.
