Disclaimer: I don’t agree with neither of you (GF & You), but I will try to explain the issue here as plainly as possible.
Having a woman you hooked up with months or years ago on your social network while dating someone sounds like and could be taken as a partner, in this case you, having a plan B in case things don’t work out (during or after breakup), and having a plan ahead such as this is usually not a good sign. You shared nothing but sex with her, so the question is: “What is there to share with her?” Imagine if she had a man who was a hookup, and just hookup, on her list? You wouldn’t be okay with it because you know how men think. And she knows how women think.
Now, why is that ten times worse than having an ex partner on your list? To be with someone you need more than sex. You need mutual viewpoints, emotions, time and so forth on. Usually people who dated for some time also have mutual friends or hobbies. So, it’s not that uncommon. But the main point is an ex partner is less of a threat than someone you hooked up with. Especially on a friend list.
Because you know exactly why the two of you broke up and in most cases there isn’t coming back, and having someone just for sex is completely different. Plus if you have a high body count she could doubt you even more about it, because most average people go by the thought that if someone really has that high of a sex drive, it’s just a matter of time before something happens. Especially if the said person tends to drink, get loose in clubs and so on. However, if that girl was your only hookup, it could sound like someone special (special memory, first hookup) etc… But the main question is: If she was just a sex, why bother having her on the list? Especially after five years, and you also mentioned she moved away. How would you know if she hasn’t told you/texted you in five years or if you aren’t looking at her stories as well?
