the right option is always the hardest
My pitbull is deaf and very kind overall. I had a roommate bring in her boyfriend's pit who he had trained to be overly aggressive and she blindsided my dog about 3 times viciously before I could get them all out of my house. She definitely had dog PTSD for the next 6-8 months, (lethargy, depression, fear, cowering) I spent a LOT of time with her, petting her, taking her on walks, showing her when we came around a new dog I was there to protect her if needed…. Especially as she is deaf I really wanted her to try to get back to a normal …. She still is very cautious around brown dogs her own size but otherwise has returned to her old self …. A lot of it is just making sure you take the time to reestablish that trust boundary … Unfortunately they don't necessarily know why you left (or why I had to work and my roommate was a b ) but for me at least she loved me enough to trust me again.
