Does your student loan system not have a salary-related payment scheme? As in; based on how much you earn, is there a minimum they would expect to receive in monthly payments?
I had a difficult life during college and raked up some debts. For my country's standards I have a high debt (nearly 75k), but my interest is set at 0% for at least 5 years and the interest rate is tied to government obligations. Based on income I only have to repay 50 a month, which leaves me plenty of room to make savings for other expenses. If after 30 years it is not fully paid (and I do not plan to repay more than the bare minimum), the rest will be forgiven.
