My wife definitely hasn't addressed her own trauma. I want to encourage her to do that – I am not sure if during pregnancy is the best time for that, but am hoping her morning sickness will subside soon so we can at least talk about it.

I think the drunk driving was on the way TO the restaurant – it's at the beginning of the story which is basically chronological and she later says he refused to give her a ride home. Much easier to miss his drunken state if she was picked up and I'm assuming he sobered up over after eating and spending time at the restaurant.
