If he’s interrupting you when you’re in the middle of something to go down some rabbit hole and pick a fight then….he’s the issue.
Moving forward, like for this example, if you’re in the middle of something and he interrupts to talk about whatever, tell him that you’d be happy to discuss further when you can give him your full attention.
I don’t know what kind of reasons he’s after to be honest. Like is he expecting you to say “frankly, I just don’t care about your feelings.” Or what?
