This isn’t a major chain either, so the POS program is likely homemade.
This is actually the biggest red flag to me.
No one just “home makes” a Point of Sale program, especially not a small-scale venture. That would require programming knowledge and a certain amount of business knowledge/savvy/discussion with financial institutions to make happen, which a small-scale venture wouldn’t have the time/money to do.
If this is the version of the story he’s telling you, then he’s 100% lying/guilty and has an inability to take responsibility for his actions and that should absolutely color your decision to move in with him
