I'm so sorry you are going through this.
My relationship with my mom was rocky all my teenage years and then some after. Same as you, I was held to expectations that were not realistic nor healthy, wasn't given much freedom, and she never tried to bond with me or connect with me emotionally.
Now that I'm thirty something, I still hate her for how she treated me then but I think she has changed. She has never apologized nor I think she ever will, but somehow she is more mature now, and her comments about other kids make me hopeful (and jealous of the change). I'm sorry you are going through this, but I desperately hope what's happening is not out of spite and is out of her not knowing any better…
If it helps, bring it up with her. Tell her in passing that “I picked up the dress and it broke my heart that you never came dress shopping with me, it has left a sore spot for me and it may be time for you and I talked about it, right?”

You know, sometimes it is actually possible for men and women to be friends. This could be completely innocent and the reason GF is getting grumpy with OP is because he’s jealous.
