In OP's defense, at the age of 40, I had a set back (as in I was separated from my ex husband at 39, divorced by 40 and had to change jobs and move.) My divorce wasn't one of those ones where I took everything from him and had to move in with my very new partner in his house he shared with a roommate and the roommates child.
The roommates mother owned the house and we all paid her rent. She came over whenever she wanted and walked into our bathroom at like three in the morning “to deep clean” and all kinds of other shit. Anyway because my income had changed and I was now paying rent which I wasn't doing while married, I wasn't saving much. I was also having to replace a bunch of day to day needed items (sheets, plates, etc) so when Covid hit and our landlord wanted to throw her own son, granddaughter and us the two tenants out of the house to move back in, my boyfriend and I were quite unprepared to move. I ended up at 41 years old having to be given a 1000 dollars by my parents for the deposit on our new place. Financially it's been awful.
We can now afford our 1450 rent but its still tight. Maybe OP doesn't have any family to give them a boost. Maybe OP didn't make her medical issues clear enough.
The point is, if they are paying rent, the mother should be expected to treat them like any other roommate would. If you had a roommate in a shared home acting like this, you would be angry too.
