Advice for man who lost two wives (72m f69)

I need some help in handling certain situations. I am a 72 year old male and having some difficulty in handling certain dating situations. I have been married twice to two wonderful, incredible ladies and was engaged to another wonderful lady.

My issue is both of my wives passed away. My first wife passed away in 1999 on the operating table due to a brain aneurysm. We had been married for 17 years. I remarried in 2006 and my second wife passed away in 2012 a year after she was diagnosed with lung and brain cancer.

During the first meeting with new ladies, we always exchange divorce, breakup information. A lot of times when I tell my story, the lady will tell me that no lady will marry me because they are afraid they will die. Just yesterday, I talked to someone on the phone and was told the same thing. I let the comment pass. I texted her later because she asked what I liked to do. I said I would sometimes hike 10-15 miles in the mountains with my hiking group. She asked if that is how I killed my wives. My ex-finance and I got into an argument once and she also made the comment “is this how you killed your wives?”

I remember going to a counselor after my second wife passed away and told my story. The first words out of her mouth were “do you feel like you are jinxed?” Never went back to her.

What am I supposed to say when people ask about my wives? Any advice on what to say if they make comments about killing them? I have already told them it is not funny to joke about that.
