It’s a fairly knew behavior. I confronted him and asked if he was cheating on me again, he denied it. I asked why he was checking on me, and his response was that he does it for “lots of reasons”. I am almost sure the behavior is to make sure I am asleep.
I know he is still getting notifications at 5 am, because I wake up pretty frequently to his phone buzzing. I still have this gnawing feeling that something is off.
Then I would plan on subletting your room for the remainder of the lease. Telling him now is just going to make your living situation hostile and tense if you're planning on staying for 8 more months. I'm sorry he's a bad roommate but honestly there's nothing to be gained by telling him that you're not planning on renewing the lease with him nearly a year before the time comes.
