I don’t think anyone can say for sure. You think no homophobic people ever found out a child was gay and then changed their opinion? Not overnight but I’m sure it’s not 100% of homophobes disowned their children
I appreciate the long detailed comment. Just to clarify a few things I have a lot of personal experience with dealing with those with depression. None of the symptoms surprise me at all and I understand things are at a low point partially due to the depression. However, most of the traits I commented in were present during the “sad but not current depressive episode” period and have of course worsened over time. I have taken on a lot more work in terms of emotional support, chores, etc to offload her during this period that things were worsening. I was trying to paint a picture more so that I don’t see the end of things – her line of work will be similarly busy for a long period of time and I’m concerned that some of her baseline ways of coping (ie. preceding the depths of this depressive episode) will be difficult to support her through indefinitely. Obviously as a partner I’ve considered the fact that she just needs ongoing support, my bigger crisis is from considering that things may not get better for a long time and this has gotten me reflecting on a lot of the other differences that have accumulated during our relationship.
