I guess that depends on you. Assuming you’re about to dorm and live! away from your parents for the first time— you’re going to be free to completely have control over your available time. If you two don’t go to school together— it’s not the end of the world. You’ll just have to workout the logistics. How often will you meet? Can you afford it? Where? Etc.
Also keep in mind that while you may not enjoy the boys in your environment for right now does not mean that will always be the case. You’ll meet a lot of meat and staying vegan can be quite the temptation.
