Sort of. A very oversimplified explanation:
A contract is a legally binding agreement between parties. All parties involved generally bear responsibility for meeting the terms they agreed to in the contract. Example: an apartment lease is a contract wherein the landlord agrees to provide you with the apartment and you agree to pay the landlord for the use of the apartment.
Co-signing is when an individual signs a contract for a loan or other financial obligation that makes them the responsible party for the debt while making another person the recipient of the subject property. Example: your credit is not good enough to get an apartment lease, so your parents co-sign, which is a contract where they agree to make sure the rent gets paid if the landlord agrees to let you live in the apartment. If you fail to make the rent payments, your parents will legally be responsible for the unpaid rent.
