Over the years, I have had republican friends and I'm a crazy hippie socialist. For most of them, it was about taxes or a few issues, but overall they were good people and we had different views on some things, that's okay.
But, with Trump, most of my republican friends stopped being republican, for obvious reasons. But the ones who support trump are definitely gone from my life. Saying “Trump” is shorthand for supporting an openly racist party that actively hangs out with nazis and is working to make it so I can't decide what to do with my own body. Those people have no place in my life, but the one's who wish the part was still like a Mitt Romney/John McCain party, I can compromise with.
So you have to get passed the way they vote and find out why your boyfriend votes the way he does. Is he anti-choice? Is he racist? How does he feel about January 6th? Those answers will reveal his true character, and if he answers how I think he will, break up!
