I asked for him to stand up for me in moments like this because I can’t always be on edge waiting for his the next time his parents do something like this to me.
He said he would and I want to give him the chance to prove it. It’s hard to earn my trust because I tend to be an anxious person and my partner is a middle child in his family so he’s used to being a peacemaker and going along with things to make others happy. I have a hard time trusting that he’ll actually stand up for me against his mom when he doesn’t naturally have that role in his family to begin with. But ultimately I think it’s only fair to give him a chance to prove himself.
You're right, it's not his responsibility. The threats that I heard are more difficult to monitor, since she wouldn't be at home to enact them, but in an unknown location and more of a danger to others. She doesn't have a close social circle that could be alerted either.
