I feel like what a lot of people are missing is that it seems like this friend is actually family now. To me, it sounds like you gave you sister a car and can’t understand why her partner is mad when you’re like a brother to her. I do agree with everyone else that you should’ve spoken to him about it beforehand. You should set up a time to meet with him in person, apologize, and talk. We know it was your friend’s birthday so her feelings matter most to you but this is her partner and in order for all the relationship dynamics to work out healthily from this point on, a conversation needs to be had. Validate his feelings without over explaining yourself. Create a stronger relationship with him so this doesn’t happen again
