Saying sweet things can help to reassure a person they are still valued, when a fight might make them question that. It’s a way to reinforce relationship security between partners so it’s not a bad thing to want. If however what you say doesn’t work, maybe it comes off as insincere or maybe she’s expecting something specific but instead of tellling you what she wants she just wants you to know, or maybe it’s something else. But she’s the one that needs to figure that out and tell you.

Sure did. I see plenty of words but you really didn't say much. I think that expecting her to give up more is unreasonable. Her quitting her job does not solve the problem, it gives her more to resent him for. Also, I have yet to see you offer an actionable suggestion on how to fix things (specifically, one that includes some effort from her husband).
