It should not be 50/50 & You shouldn’t be paying any more than you do currently or fair market rent. You DO NOT want to be on any mortgage. That is just debt without any security for you. Once you’re married you can be added to the deed. You should be paying based upon the portion of house/duplex you use. Absolutely no share in repairs, fixing up or furniture purchases unless the furniture is considered yours. You are a tenant and please get that in writing for your protection. ALSO, if you intend to purchase property yourself as a first time homeowner you must do this before you are married otherwise (from what I’ve read) you wouldn’t qualify.
