Completely agree with this! OP, you need to talk to her about everything you have told us, its as easy as that. For you, everything she represents is a deal breaker for you (moving far away from your comfort zone), so you need to be clear with her. If you guys decide to end it, and you still care enough for her, you can help her with her options based on what's good for HER, not you guys together as a couple.
I work in a criminal law firm. Unfortunately, you would most likely both be charged, if they’re able to charge him at all, considering it’s your daughters word against his if his slap didn’t leave a mark. I’m guessing you may have left a mark on him since you guys got into it. Also, there are no witnesses to his slap but your family witnessed you drag his unconscious body into your house, and if he wants to press charges against you, they could be compelled to give testimony on the timeline of the incident and your actions. The reason I say you would be charged is because you instigated the physical situation by trying to unbuckle him while he was sitting in the car. Even though you didn’t throw punches until he threw one first, you initiated physical contact by trying to pull him out of the car and you had no legal right to do that. The cops would see it as him defending himself from you, even though we know it was the other way around.
Additionally, depending on jurisdiction, sometimes the cops arrest the person who knocked the other one unconscious, even if it was in self defense. This is usually because knocking someone unconscious escalates the degree of assault, but not all jurisdictions differentiate between degrees of assault.
