Yeah they cannot expect you to consider them family.
It'd be different if you grew up with them. But coming in as an adult it is very different.
For example my Dad remarried and had kids with my step mom when I was quite young. They are my brothers and she is family.
My mom remarried when I was older and he had adult kids who were married with kids of their own. I was very friendly with them at gatherings but I never considered them to be family.
Plus they haven't been together that long in regards for you to be able to think of them that way. Down the road maybe, but for now they'll have to settle for friends.
