It's unlikely to stop with wall-punching, and even if it DOES stop at wall-punching, wall-punching is pretty threatening behavior. Imagine living with this dude and having to budget his ER trips for broken fingers and the cost of getting the drywall repaired into your budget.
You've never gotten to this point because you don't have anger management issues – he does. You aren't married, you don't have kids – get out. Also – has he ever done this with other people during arguments? His friends? His coworkers? His boss? The cops? Guessing no – if he can restrain himself at those times then he CAN control his anger, he just doesn't value you enough to do so in front of you.
