I wonder how long ago she had these feelings. How many years ago? Was it straight after Uni? Was it 5, 10 years ago? What you GF dating other women at the same time she was crushing on her bestie?

This would be a difficult conversation to have but you could ask her why she thinks bestie would be perfect? Is it just the long friendship and trust? Is it a physical thing as well?
It does sound like there's residual feelings tbh and if I was in your position I'd be very unhappy.
