I am almost 30 and I can tell you right now there is no way I would be hanging with 20 year olds outside of a work setting. And none of my friends would either, unless the 20 year old is like a younger sibling or something.
I feel like most of the age-gap defenders on Reddit are disconnected from reality and have never actually met any young adults to know how significant the difference can be.
My boyfriend and I are both firmly alt, and we are academic scientists. I doubt either of us would date someone who isn't alt at this point… but anyway, I think maybe you should consider looking at people in your socioeconomic tier for people you can relate to better. Alts/punks are everywhere these days.
Yeah I agree that it's sad. I use to tell him a lot that his job mattered even if he wasn't infantry. Until this day he feels uncomfortable when someone thanks him for his service. He also hates standing up during events that like to acknowledge military.
