My heart just hurts for your boyfriend. That is alot for anyone at any age. I'm twice your age and losing my mom and my dog a year later crushed me. The one thing I will say you can suggest to him is a grief support group. Therapy is good but the one thing that helped me was talking to other people that are in the same boat. Reddit actually has a grief sub that I've found helpful and there are other on-line options if he doesn't want to do something in person.
You are doing awesome just by caring enough to ask. Trust me there is no perfect or right thing you can say so don't feel like you should be able to fix this for him. Just being around is enough. It's like you don't want to be alone but you don't want people either because it's too much. Just being there with him is a help even if you aren't talking or he doesn't want to talk.
