Don't get married. When you marry someone, they should be the only one on your mind. It'll be a disaster sooner or later. Trust me on this.
I (56f) married my husband (61m) 28 years ago. I met him when he was pretty fresh out of his marriage to his first wife. When I met him, they were split up for 7 months. We married a year after that. So enough time passed, hmm? Wrong. Heck, I even brought it up several times before we married that we could wait to marry. He was upset and said, “You don't want to marry me!!” I told him I absolutely did, but I wanted him to have time to be sure he was over his first wife. He assured me he was. Wrong again.
He ended up being a sneaky asshole and had a secret relationship with her. Emotionally and possibly physically as well. Though they both denied the physical part. Plus, he had several other unrelated transgressions. So yeah; I'm definitely not his dream girl. I guess I never really was. Oh well.
He's now in very poor health and depends on me. Claims he loves me. No buddy. You just need me now. Big difference. We're both retired and on fixed incomes. We have a nice, paid for home; and, long story short, what with rents and mortgage costs, it's in my financial best interest to stay put. Oh, I know how crappy that sounds. Especially in this day and age, but I have no interest in looking for a life with someone else. I'm all fucked up in the head anyway from his dalliances plus shit I endured from other men before him. Yeah. I sure can pick 'em! Love and marriage is great for some people (who are ready for it—you're not) and a very poor choice for others (me). Since I'm part of the later group (you too; for different reasons), it would've been better if I stayed single and focused on my career and philanthropy.
You don’t understand he is an embarrassment sometimes. He is not very socially competent and doesn’t have good situational awareness, I have to help him. He literally said the f slur once at a party, I was pissed so I pulled him aside to another room slapped him and made him go apologize to my friends. I deal with this because he has good in him and I love him.
