I would say it’s not normal to get a ride to school at that age but you have been homeschooled and haven’t been given a a chance to learn. I’m from the uk for from secondary school around age 12-13 most kids walk or get the bus but some do still get lifts. I’ve used to get the bus (which is a public bus) to school and home again unless I decided to walk home which would take about 45mins. I think you really need to look into getting your license so you have some more independence.
Angel clearly had serious concerns about her family. If Angel was someone that showed reasonable judgment and was a decent person I would follow her request.
